SERVICES: Bovine: Embryo Collection

Leduc Farm Animal Hospital offers embryo flushing and transfer services. We can implant the collected embryos the same day or freeze the embryos so that they can be implanted at a later date. Our doctors will provide you with a hormone protocol and all the necessary products required for the flush day. These protocols encourage the donor to release multiple eggs during the cows cycle (superovulation). The cow is then artificially inseminated with conventional or sexed semen. On collection day, the doctor will evaluate them under a microscope, grade them for quality, and prepare them for either fresh transfer into recipient cows or freezing for future use. Flushing embryos is primarily performed to maximize the genetic potential of a cow allowing her to produce dozens of calves per year. It accelerates genetic gain and productivity.
