SERVICES: Bovine: Semen Freezing

Leduc Farm Animal Hospital offers Owners Use Only (OWS) bull semen collection and freezing services. This service allows bull owners to easily preserve valuable genetics using modern equipment. If your bull gets hurt, you will still have his genetics frozen in the semen tank ready for to be used for AI. No health tests are required, and collection can be done quickly in a single day.

What do we need from you? We will need specific information on your bull which will be sent out via email, how many straws you are looking for and if you have your own storage tank. The bull will be able to be collected and sent home on the same day. We do recommend performing a semen evaluation 1-4 weeks prior to your appointment to assess breeding quality. This reduces the chance that he fails the semen test on the day of collection. If the bull is currently breeding, he should be removed from cows for 5-7 days beforehand to improve sample quality (minimum 48hrs). If he is not actively breeding, teasing with cull cows across a fence for 7-10 days is suggested to stimulate fresh semen production.

All collected semen is for owners’ use only and cannot be sold or traded.
